Android's own backup may include what the app stores, if you have that switched on.

What is collected

Nothing reaches us. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no identifiers, and the app itself sends nothing anywhere, so your grade and your results are not something we receive.

The app does write them down, on the device you are using, so that closing it does not cost you your place. What it writes down, and what can happen to it afterwards, is the next section — and that is the whole of it.

What is stored, and where

Here is everything the app writes down, so that closing it does not cost you your place. It is kept by the app on the device you are using, under one name:

• freshink.state.v1 — the grade and the clef you chose; the key signature you are practising; the practice set you are working through; which test in it you are on; which of them you have finished; for each finished test, how many notes it had, how many of those you played on the beat, and the score it worked out — a percentage that counts stray taps against you as well; and the tempo you set.

Practice sets are kept on your device, and Android's own backup may include them if you have that switched on.

That backup is Android's own, and whether it ever runs depends on your Google account settings, so the app can neither trigger one nor learn whether it happened.

What this app stored on your device goes when you clear its data, and you can delete any backup Android may have taken from your Google account yourself.

What the app connects to

Nothing. The app makes no network requests of its own: everything it shows is generated on your device from its own files. There is no server behind it, no analytics service, no advertising network, and no font, script or image borrowed from anyone else.

It does declare the Android INTERNET permission, and it is fair to ask why. That permission is what lets an app of this kind load its own files from inside the installed package; it is required by the framework the app is built on, not by anything the app does with it. What the app ships with is checked rather than promised — a test reads the release bundle and fails if the code inside it contains any of the calls a page uses to reach the network.

Android permissions it asks for

android.permission.INTERNET — and nothing else. The list is compared against the release bundle exactly, in both directions, so a permission that outlived the code that wanted it would fail a test rather than sit here unmentioned.

The app does not use the microphone, the camera or your location.

Children

Fresh Ink is suitable for any age. There are no accounts, no advertising and no third party in it, and nothing a child does in it is sent to us. What the app writes down about their practice is written on the device they use, and “What is stored, and where” above lists it.

Changes

If any of this stops being true, this page changes before that version ships. What the app collects, what it sends, what it permits and which permissions it asks for are generated from the same declarations that are checked against the app's release bundle, and the list of what it stores is checked field by field against the record the code actually writes. So a change in what the app does fails a test here — it is not something anyone has to remember to come back and edit.
